The story of the piece
Versace
Versace baroque printed skinny jeans
Versace is one of the most iconic fashion houses in the world, founded by Gianni Versace in 1978. Born in Reggio Calabria, Italy, on December 2, 1946, Gianni Versace began his career in the fashion world working in his mother's atelier, a seamstress. After moving to Milan, he launched his first collection under the name “Gianni Versace Donna,” which achieved immediate success thanks to its bold and innovative style.
The Versace brand is known for its opulent designs, vibrant colors, and bold prints, often inspired by Greek and Roman mythology. One of Versace's most recognizable symbols is the Medusa, chosen by Gianni to represent the brand's enchanting beauty and seductive power. In the '80s and '90s, Versace became synonymous with luxury and glamour, attracting a celebrity clientele such as Madonna, Elton John, and Princess Diana.
The tragic death of Gianni Versace in 1997, murdered outside his villa in Miami Beach, deeply shook the fashion world. Following his death, his sister Donatella Versace took over as creative director, carrying forward her brother's legacy and keeping the brand relevant and cutting-edge.
Under Donatella's leadership, Versace has continued to thrive, introducing new lines such as Versus and the haute couture line Atelier Versace. The maison has also expanded its product range, including accessories, fragrances, home furnishings, and luxury hotels.
In 2018, the fashion group Michael Kors Holdings (now Capri Holdings) acquired Versace for $2.1 billion, continuing to support the brand's global expansion. Donatella Versace has remained at the creative helm, ensuring that Gianni's bold and innovative spirit lives on through every collection.
Today, Versace remains a symbol of luxury and style, recognized for its distinctive aesthetic and its ability to fuse tradition and modernity, consolidating its position as one of the leading fashion houses in the world.
