The story of the piece
Gucci
Gucci Monogram canvas and leather belt
Gucci is one of the most famous and influential maisons in the world, founded in 1921 in Florence by Guccio Gucci. After working as a porter and bellhop in luxury hotels in London and Paris, Guccio developed a deep understanding of the tastes and needs of international clientele. Upon returning to Italy, he opened a boutique specializing in high-quality travel goods and leatherware.
In the 1930s and '40s, despite the difficulties related to material restrictions during the war, Gucci stood out for its creativity, introducing innovative solutions such as the use of bamboo for bag handles. This led to the creation of the famous Bamboo Bag, destined to become a brand icon. In the following years, other distinctive elements were introduced, such as the green-red-green Web stripe and the horsebit clasp, inspired by the equestrian world.
During the 1950s and '60s, Gucci experienced rapid international expansion, opening boutiques in cities such as New York, Paris, and London. The brand became a symbol of Italian elegance, embraced by celebrities and style icons.
After a period of crisis in the 1980s, Gucci experienced a rebirth in the 1990s under the creative direction of Tom Ford, who revitalized the brand with a sensual and modern aesthetic. Subsequently, designers such as Frida Giannini and Alessandro Michele reinterpreted the maison's codes, introducing new stylistic visions.
Today, Gucci is part of the Kering group and is one of the most influential brands in the global landscape. By combining artisanal tradition and innovation, it continues to represent a benchmark in contemporary luxury.
