The story of the piece
Louis Vuitton
Louis Vuitton Initiales 30 reversible belt
Louis Vuitton was born on August 4, 1821, in Anchay, France. At just 13 years old, he left his village to reach Paris, where he began working as an apprentice for a renowned trunk and suitcase maker. Thanks to his craftsmanship and attention to detail, he quickly became one of the best artisans in the industry, even working for Empress Eugénie, wife of Napoleon III.
In 1854, he founded the maison Louis Vuitton in Paris, specializing in the production of innovative travel trunks. Unlike traditional trunks with domed lids, Vuitton introduced models with flat lids, which were easier to stack during long train and ship journeys. This innovation contributed to the brand's rapid success.
In 1896, his son Georges Vuitton created the iconic Monogram Canvas pattern, characterized by the LV initials and floral motifs, also designed to counter imitations. The monogram remains one of the most recognizable symbols in the luxury world today.
Throughout the 1900s, Louis Vuitton expanded its production by introducing handbags, small leather goods, accessories, and subsequently clothing, footwear, jewelry, and perfumes. The maison has collaborated with numerous internationally renowned artists and designers, blending artisanal tradition with contemporary creativity.
Since 1987, Louis Vuitton has been part of the LVMH group, the world's largest luxury conglomerate. Over the years, creative directors such as Marc Jacobs and Nicolas Ghesquière have helped renew the brand's image while keeping its identity intact.
