The story of the piece
Gucci
Gucci GG Marmont Web canvas and leather belt
Gucci was founded in 1921 in Florence by Guccio Gucci, who, after working at London's Savoy Hotel, became fascinated by the cosmopolitan elegance of international elite travelers. Upon returning to Italy, he opened a leather goods shop, combining Tuscan craftsmanship with British taste. From its early years, the brand introduced details inspired by the equestrian world—such as the bit, the stirrup, and the green-red-green stripe—which would become timeless symbols of the maison.
In the 1950s and 60s, Gucci conquered Hollywood, the aristocracy, and the jet set. Iconic creations were born, such as the Bamboo Bag, created during the post-war period with hand-shaped bamboo handles, the bit loafer, which became an international symbol of elegance, and the Jackie bag, made famous by Jacqueline Kennedy. The maison expanded by opening boutiques in New York, London, and Paris, consolidating its global reputation.
The 1980s marked a difficult period, but a rebirth arrived in 1994 with the arrival of Tom Ford as creative director. With his sensual, bold, and glamorous style, Ford transformed Gucci into a cultural phenomenon, returning it to the heights of international luxury.
In 2006, Frida Giannini took the creative helm, reinterpreting historical codes in a romantic and sophisticated way. A new turning point occurred in 2015 with Alessandro Michele, who completely redefined the brand's identity through a maximalist, eccentric, cultured, and deeply narrative aesthetic. Gucci became a global symbol of contemporary creativity.
Since 2023, the maison has been led by Sabato De Sarno, who introduces a more essential, modern, and sensual vision, ushering in a new era.
