The story of the piece
Christian Dior
Christian Dior Dior Oblique jacquard canvas bucket hat
Dior was founded in 1946 in Paris by the designer Christian Dior, one of the most influential names in 20th-century fashion. After working as an illustrator and collaborating with major French maisons, Dior founded his own fashion house with the support of businessman Marcel Boussac. From the very beginning, the maison stood out for its elegant, feminine, and revolutionary style.
The breakthrough came in 1947 with the first haute couture collection, defined by the "New Look" print. Christian Dior introduced silhouettes characterized by soft shoulders, a cinched waist, and full skirts, marking a sharp break from the austere fashion of the wartime period. The New Look brought luxury and sophistication back to women's fashion, transforming Dior into an international symbol of Parisian elegance.
In the following years, the maison rapidly expanded its universe by introducing perfumes, accessories, and prêt-à-porter. The launch of Miss Dior perfume further contributed to the brand's success, consolidating its sophisticated and romantic image. Christian Dior also became famous for his talent in showcasing French craftsmanship and for creating refined and theatrical collections.
Following the designer's sudden death in 1957, the creative direction passed to a very young Yves Saint Laurent, followed in the years to come by highly prestigious designers such as Marc Bohan, Gianfranco Ferré, John Galliano, Raf Simons, and Maria Grazia Chiuri. Each of them reinterpreted the maison's heritage while keeping the brand's historic codes alive.
Among Dior's most iconic creations are the Lady Dior bag, the Bar Jacket, and haute couture collections rich in embroidery and precious details. Today, Dior is one of the most prestigious maisons in the world, a symbol of luxury, innovation, and French savoir-faire, capable of uniting tradition and modernity while keeping the visionary spirit of its founder intact.
