The story of the piece
Chanel
Chanel CC leather and metal chain belt
Chanel was born in 1910 when Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel opened her first hat atelier in Paris, on Rue Cambon. Possessing a highly modern vision, Coco broke the fashion rules of the era, liberating women from corsets and constraints. She introduced a new aesthetic based on simplicity, comfort, and functionality, revolutionizing femininity through clean lines and unusual materials, such as jersey.
In the 1920s, she created pieces destined to become eternal: the little black dress, the jersey knit, the tweed jacket, and the timeless Chanel suit, a symbol of free and modern elegance. In 1921, she launched Chanel N°5, the fragrance that forever changed the history of scent and became the emblem of the maison. Coco also introduced couture costume jewelry, faux pearls, the camellia, and iconic accessories that still define the Chanel style today.
After the maison closed during the Second World War, Coco returned to the scene in 1954, bringing her sober and essential silhouette back into fashion. Her codes — tweed, gold chain, bicolor, the CC logo — became the pillars of the brand's identity.
Upon her death in 1971, the maison underwent a period of transition until the arrival, in 1983, of Karl Lagerfeld, who revolutionized Chanel while keeping its tradition intact. Lagerfeld reinterpreted the historical codes with irony and modernity, transforming Chanel into a global luxury giant for over three decades.
Since 2019, the creative direction has been entrusted to Virginie Viard, who continues the maison's legacy with a more intimate, light, and everyday style.
