The story of the piece
Gucci
Gucci Flora print silk carré
Gucci is one of the most prestigious fashion maisons in the world, a symbol of luxury, elegance, and innovation. Founded in 1921 in Florence by Guccio Gucci, the brand began as an artisanal workshop specializing in leather goods, luggage, and equestrian accessories, inspired by English style.
Gucci Flora print silk carré. In the 1930s, Gucci introduced iconic elements such as the diamond pattern, the green-red-green stripe, and the horsebit, all inspired by the equestrian world. During the Second World War, the scarcity of materials led to the use of hemp and linen, from which the famous GG canvas was born.
In the post-war period, Gucci expanded rapidly and became a symbol of international sophistication. In the 1950s and '60s, it opened boutiques in Rome, Milan, New York, London, and Paris. Its creations won over celebrities such as Jackie Kennedy, Liz Taylor, and Grace Kelly.
In the 1980s, the family management of the brand led to internal tensions and an identity crisis. The turning point came in the 1990s with the arrival of Tom Ford as creative director. His bold, sensual, and provocative style revitalized Gucci, transforming it into one of the most desired maisons in the world.
After Ford, Frida Giannini led the brand until 2015, when Alessandro Michele was appointed creative director. With his eclectic, retro, and inclusive style, Michele revolutionized Gucci's aesthetic, merging history and contemporaneity, and making the brand a symbol of expressive freedom.
Today, Gucci is part of the French group Kering and continues to innovate while respecting its heritage. Spanning fashion, accessories, perfumery, and sustainability, the brand is loved globally for its ability to reinvent itself while remaining faithful to the artisanal quality and visionary spirit of its founder.
