The story of the piece
Gucci
Gucci G logo brushed leather belt
The history of Gucci is one of the most fascinating in the luxury fashion world, weaving together craftsmanship, innovation, and a strong Italian identity. The maison was founded in 1921 in Florence, when Guccio Gucci opened a small leather goods and luggage shop. After working as a porter at the Savoy Hotel in London, Guccio was struck by the elegance of the luggage used by international high society and decided to reinterpret that refined taste through Tuscan artisanal tradition.
During the 1930s and 40s, the brand established itself thanks to the quality of its materials and creative solutions born even from periods of hardship. During the Second World War, the scarcity of leather led Gucci to experiment with alternative materials, such as hemp and bamboo, resulting in the famous Bamboo Bag, destined to become a timeless icon. During these years, distinctive elements such as the diamond pattern, the green-red-green web, and the equestrian-inspired bit also appeared.
In the post-war era, Gucci experienced rapid international expansion. In the 1950s and 60s, it opened boutiques in New York, Paris, and London, winning over Hollywood stars and members of high society. The brand became a symbol of luxury and status, beloved by celebrities and royal families. However, from the 1970s onwards, family conflicts and management issues began to weaken the company.
The turning point came in the 1990s, when a profound restructuring relaunched the brand. Under new creative direction, Gucci reclaimed its historical heritage by merging it with a modern, bold, and sensual aesthetic. In the 21st century, the maison continues to reinvent itself, focusing on creativity, inclusivity, and sustainability, without losing its connection to its roots.
Today, Gucci is one of the most influential luxury brands in the world, capable of uniting tradition and innovation, and telling, through fashion, a story that has lasted for over a hundred years.
