The story of the piece
Chanel
Chanel gold-plated CC logo brooch
The history of Chanel is deeply linked to the figure of Coco Chanel, one of the most revolutionary personalities in 20th-century fashion. The maison was founded in 1910 in Paris, when Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel opened a hat shop. From the very beginning, her approach broke with the conventions of the time, focusing on simplicity, functionality, and understated elegance.
In the following years, Chanel introduced a new way for women to dress, liberating them from corsets and restrictive garments. Drawing inspiration from menswear, she used innovative fabrics such as jersey, which until then was considered low-grade, creating comfortable yet sophisticated pieces. In the 1920s, she launched icons destined to go down in history, such as the petite robe noire (the little black dress) and the Chanel N°5 fragrance, which redefined the concept of feminine scent.
After a period of great success, the maison went through a difficult phase during the Second World War, leading Chanel to temporarily withdraw from the scene. However, in 1954, Coco Chanel returned with a collection that reaffirmed her modern vision: the birth of the famous tweed suit, a symbol of practical and timeless elegance, destined to become a cornerstone of the brand.
Following the founder's death in 1971, Chanel continued to evolve while maintaining its identity. The decisive turning point came in the 1980s with a new creative direction that reinterpreted the maison's historical codes in a contemporary way, strengthening its global impact. Today, Chanel is synonymous with luxury, sophistication, and female independence. From a bold vision born at the beginning of the twentieth century, the maison has become a cultural icon capable of transcending eras, remaining faithful to the values of elegance, freedom, and absolute style.
