The maison was founded at the beginning of the 20th century by Coco Chanel, born Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel in 1883. Raised in an orphanage, Coco quickly developed an independent and unconventional spirit. After working as a milliner, in 1910 she opened her first hat shop in Paris. Success arrived quickly thanks to a simple, elegant style far from the excesses of the fashion of that era.

In the 1920s, Chanel revolutionized women's clothing by introducing pieces inspired by the menswear wardrobe: jersey, fluid lines, and comfortable, functional dresses. Timeless icons were born, such as the little black dress, a symbol of essential elegance, and the fragrance Chanel N°5 (1921), the first abstract perfume in history, destined to become legendary.

During the Thirties and Forties, the brand went through difficult times and Coco Chanel temporarily stepped away from fashion. However, in 1954 she returned to the scene with a revolutionary collection that included the famous tweed suit, designed for an active, free, and modern woman. Initially criticized, the collection soon became a symbol of international sophistication.

After the death of Coco Chanel in 1971, the maison continued to evolve while keeping its stylistic codes intact: black and white, pearls, gold chains, camellias, and quilting. In 1983, the arrival of Karl Lagerfeld marked a new era, reinterpreting the Chanel heritage through a contemporary lens.

Today, Chanel is one of the most influential luxury brands in the world. Its history represents a true cultural revolution: not just fashion, but a new concept of elegance based on freedom, simplicity, and independence.
