The story of the piece
Chanel
Chanel gold-plated metal and rhinestone CC logo brooch
Chanel was born at the beginning of the 20th century thanks to Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, one of the most revolutionary figures in fashion. After opening her first hat shop in Paris in 1910, Coco introduced a radically new vision of feminine style: simple, functional, and liberated from the constraints of traditional clothing. In the 1920s, she created some of the most iconic pieces in fashion history, such as the tweed suit, the Little Black Dress, and the N°5 fragrance, a symbol of modernity and elegance.
Chanel broke the conventions of the era by using materials then considered informal, such as jersey, and introducing a minimalist yet sophisticated aesthetic. The Chanel woman is active, independent, and effortlessly elegant. In the 1930s, the maison continued to grow, consolidating its role in Parisian couture.
After closing during the Second World War, Coco Chanel returned to the scene in 1954, relaunching the brand with new variations of the tweed suit, chain bags, and a chic, functional fashion that once again captivated the public.
Upon her death in 1971, the maison underwent years of transition until 1983, when Karl Lagerfeld became creative director. Lagerfeld profoundly renewed the maison without betraying its identity: he reinterpreted historical codes such as the camellia, pearls, tweed, and the Double C, bringing Chanel into the contemporary era. Under his guidance, the brand became a global symbol of luxury, innovation, and desirability.
Since 2019, the creative direction has passed to Virginie Viard, who continues the tradition with a more understated, feminine, and everyday approach.
