The story of the piece
Chanel
Chanel metal and leather Rue De Cambon chain belt
Gabrielle ‘Coco’ Chanel was born on August 19, 1883, in Saumur, France. After a difficult childhood spent in an orphanage, she learned to sew, a skill that would allow her to build an extraordinary career in the fashion world. The nickname “Coco” came from the songs she sang in cafés before dedicating herself entirely to dressmaking.
In 1910, she opened her first hat shop in Paris and, in the following years, expanded her business with clothing boutiques. Chanel revolutionized women's fashion by proposing simple, elegant, and comfortable garments, in contrast to the rigid clothing and corsets typical of the era. She introduced the use of jersey, a fabric previously used mainly for men's and sportswear.
In 1921, she launched the famous Chanel No. 5 perfume, destined to become one of the most famous and best-selling in the world. During the same years, she created the “Chanel suit,” characterized by essential and refined lines, and the famous “little black dress,” a garment that became a symbol of timeless elegance.
During the Second World War, the maison temporarily closed its operations. In 1954, Coco Chanel returned to the fashion world with a new collection that achieved great success, especially internationally. Her creations continued to profoundly influence feminine style.
