The story of the piece
Chanel
Chanel Coco Cocoon quilted nylon shoulder bag
The maison Chanel was born at the beginning of the 20th century from the revolutionary vision of Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, one of the most influential figures in modern fashion. Born in 1883 and raised in an orphanage, Coco developed an essential and rigorous taste that would become her stylistic signature. After working as a singer in small cabarets, she opened her first shop in Paris in 1910, beginning to create simple and refined hats that captivated the artistic elite.
In 1913 and then in 1915, Coco opened boutiques in Deauville and Biarritz, introducing jersey garments—a fabric considered sporty until then—transforming it into a symbol of comfortable elegance. Her fashion broke with the corsets and decorative excess of the era: she proposed light lines, free silhouettes, women's trousers, sailor sweaters, and a new idea of femininity, practical and modern.
In 1921, Chanel N°5 was born, the most famous perfume in the world, revolutionary for its abstract formula and the minimal design of the bottle. In the 1920s, Coco introduced the iconic tweed, the small black jacket, the tailleur, the little black dress, the 2.55 shoulder bag, and the black-and-white combination, defining the codes of timeless elegance.
After the closure of the maison during the Second World War, Chanel reopened in 1954, presenting collections that rebuilt the myth of her style. Upon her death in 1971, the brand went through various creative changes until 1983, when Karl Lagerfeld arrived. With his bold vision, Lagerfeld renewed the Chanel codes while keeping the founder's legacy alive, transforming the maison into a global empire.
