The story of the piece

Balmain

Balmain logo cotton T-shirt

Balmain is a historic French fashion maison founded in 1945 by Pierre Balmain, immediately after World War II. From the very beginning, Balmain distinguished itself with an opulent, elegant, and strongly feminine style that embodied the spirit of the era's “New Look,” alongside Christian Dior. Pierre Balmain created refined, impeccably tailored garments designed for a sophisticated and confident woman. Among his clients were stars such as Brigitte Bardot, Marlene Dietrich, and Katharine Hepburn.

In 2011, the brand underwent a radical shift with the arrival of the very young Olivier Rousteing as creative director. With his bold and modern style, Rousteing has led Balmain into a new era, making it a brand beloved by celebrities and influencers. He introduced a more sensual and structured aesthetic, featuring strong shoulders, fitted silhouettes, and a keen attention to detail. His work has also made Balmain a prominent name in pop culture, thanks to collaborations with artists such as Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Kanye West.

Today, Balmain is synonymous with modern luxury, recognizable for its mix of glamour, military influences, and streetwear. Under Rousteing's leadership, the maison has successfully reinvented itself without forgetting its historical roots, consolidating its position as one of the most influential brands in contemporary fashion.
