Valentino Garavani is one of the most famous and influential Italian designers in fashion history. Born in Voghera, in the province of Pavia, in 1932, he showed a great passion for drawing and tailoring from a young age. After studying in Milan, he moved to Paris, where he attended important fashion schools and worked for prestigious French maisons, gaining experience and refining his style.
In 1960, he founded the maison Valentino in Rome together with his partner Giancarlo Giammetti. From his very first collections, Valentino stood out for the elegance of his creations, characterized by refined lines, precious fabrics, and extraordinary attention to detail. One of the brand's most iconic elements is the famous Rosso Valentino, a particular shade of red that has become a symbol of the maison and is recognized worldwide.
In the sixties and seventies, Valentino achieved international success, dressing princesses, actresses, first ladies, and cultural and entertainment personalities. His creations were worn by famous women who appreciated his sophisticated, feminine, and timeless style. The brand progressively expanded its offering to include menswear, accessories, bags, shoes, fragrances, and haute couture.
In the following years, the maison continued to grow, maintaining a strong connection to Italian craftsmanship and sartorial excellence. In 2008, Valentino Garavani retired from the runways after a career lasting nearly fifty years, leaving a legacy that continues to influence contemporary fashion.
