The story of the piece
Saint Laurent
Saint Laurent Envelope Large matelassé leather shoulder bag
The history of Saint Laurent began in 1961, when Yves Saint Laurent, after leaving the artistic direction of Dior, founded his own maison in Paris alongside his partner and associate Pierre Bergé. From the very beginning, the designer imposed a revolutionary vision, redefining the concept of feminine elegance with a modern, bold, and liberating approach.
In 1966, the “Rive Gauche” line was born, the first prêt-à-porter collection by a couturier, making luxury fashion more accessible. In the same year, he presented the legendary “Le Smoking”, the women's tuxedo that challenged conventions and became a symbol of emancipation and power.
During the 70s and 80s, Yves Saint Laurent brought a unique mix of art, culture, and sensuality to the runway, drawing inspiration from painters such as Mondrian, Picasso, and Van Gogh, and from places such as Africa and Morocco, his creative refuge. His muses — from Catherine Deneuve to Bianca Jagger — embodied the Saint Laurent woman: elegant, independent, and self-assured.
Following the designer's retirement in 2002 and his death in 2008, the maison continued its evolution under new artistic directions. In 2012, Hedi Slimane revitalized the brand, renaming it Saint Laurent Paris and introducing a more rock and minimalist aesthetic, while respecting the founder's legacy.
Since 2016, Anthony Vaccarello has continued to interpret the maison's codes with a sensual, architectural, and contemporary touch, enhancing the contrast between strength and femininity.
Today, Saint Laurent is synonymous with modern luxury, elegant rebellion, and timeless Parisian style, one of the most influential and coveted maisons in the world, a symbol of freedom, art, and female empowerment.
