The story of the piece

Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton x Richard Prince Speedy 35 Aquarelle Monogram handbag

The history of Louis Vuitton began in 1854 in Paris, when the founder of the same name opened his first trunk shop. Vuitton, coming from a humble family, moved to Paris at age 16 and began working as an apprentice for a trunk and suitcase maker. Here, he developed a profound knowledge of craftsmanship and, with the opening of his shop, introduced significant innovations.

Louis Vuitton x Richard Prince Speedy 35 Aquarelle Watercolor handbag: one of Louis Vuitton's first innovations was the creation of trunks with flat lids, unlike the rounded ones in use at the time. This made them stackable and much more practical for travel. Additionally, he introduced a waterproof fabric called “Trianon,” which improved the protection of the trunk's contents. These innovations quickly made Louis Vuitton a renowned name among travelers and nobility.

In 1896, Louis's son, Georges Vuitton, introduced the famous “LV” monogram pattern, combined with flowers and geometric shapes, to protect products from imitations. This design became a brand icon and one of the most recognizable symbols in the luxury world.

Throughout the 20th century, Louis Vuitton expanded globally, continuing to produce high-quality suitcases, bags, and leather goods. In the 1980s, the brand became part of the LVMH group (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton), becoming one of the most powerful luxury companies in the world.

Under the guidance of creative directors such as Marc Jacobs from 1997, and subsequently Nicolas Ghesquière, Louis Vuitton also transformed into a fashion house, with prêt-à-porter, shoes, and accessories collections. Today, Louis Vuitton is synonymous with luxury, innovation, and impeccable craftsmanship, maintaining its reputation as one of the most prestigious brands in the world.
