The story of the piece
Gucci
Gucci optical print silk carré
Gucci was founded in Florence in 1921 by Guccio Gucci, an artisan and entrepreneur who transformed his passion for luxury and leather goods into one of the most iconic brands in the world. After a period of working in London, where he closely observed the elegance of the international lifestyle, Guccio returned to Italy with the idea of creating high-end travel goods and leather accessories, combining Tuscan artisanal tradition with sophisticated taste.
In its early decades, the brand established itself through the production of suitcases, bags, and equestrian accessories, distinguishing itself with precious materials and impeccable craftsmanship. It was from the world of equestrianism that some of the maison's most famous symbols were born, such as the Horsebit and the green-red-green Web stripe, which over time became the brand's distinctive hallmarks.
In the 1950s and 1960s, Gucci experienced strong international expansion, opening boutiques in fashion capitals and winning over an elite clientele of film stars, aristocrats, and the jet set. During this period, iconic models such as the Bamboo Bag and the Horsebit loafer were born, which remain symbols of timeless elegance today.
After complex years marked by family tensions and corporate changes, Gucci experienced a new creative rebirth from the 1990s onwards, thanks to creative directors capable of reinterpreting its identity. First Tom Ford, then Frida Giannini, Alessandro Michele, and Sabato De Sarno have contributed to evolving the brand's language, alternating between sensuality, maximalism, and modernity.
Today, Gucci is one of the absolute protagonists of global luxury. Part of the Kering group, it continues to represent Made in Italy worldwide through collections that combine heritage, innovation, and a strong cultural vision.
