The story of the piece

Gucci

Gucci silk foulard with all-over logo print

The story of Gucci begins in 1921 in Florence, when Guccio Gucci founded a small leather goods and luggage workshop, inspired by the luxury he admired while working as a porter in the hotels of London and Paris. The artisanal quality of Gucci products quickly won over customers, and the workshop stood out for its use of precious materials and refined details. In the 1930s, Gucci introduced its iconic double “G”, a tribute to the founder, and the green-red-green web, inspired by the equestrian world, distinctive elements that still define the brand today.

During this period, the “Bamboo” bag was born, becoming a symbol of elegance and desire among celebrities. In the 1960s and '70s, the brand consolidated its position as a luxury icon thanks to famous clients such as Jackie Kennedy, who inspired the “Jackie” bag, Audrey Hepburn, and Grace Kelly. However, the 1980s marked a period of internal difficulties for the family management, leading to a company crisis.

In 1990, the arrival of Tom Ford as creative director marked a rebirth for Gucci. Ford revitalized the brand with a sensual and modern aesthetic, transforming Gucci into an international fashion icon of the 1990s and 2000s. In 2004, Frida Giannini took over as creative director, introducing a more romantic and heritage-focused vision.

Since 2015, Alessandro Michele has once again revolutionized the brand, combining vintage and contemporary aesthetics with an eclectic and visionary style that has captured new generations. Today, Gucci is one of the most influential luxury brands in the world, celebrated for its bold, innovative spirit and its ability to continuously reinterpret tradition through a modern lens.
