The story of the piece

Gucci

Gucci By Tom Ford blue acetate wristwatch

Gucci is one of the most prestigious and iconic fashion houses in the world, founded in 1921 in Florence by Guccio Gucci. After working as a porter at the Savoy Hotel in London, Guccio returned to Italy with the intention of creating luxury leather goods inspired by British elegance and Italian craftsmanship. His first boutique in Florence quickly became renowned for the superior quality of its suitcases, bags, and leather accessories.

Gucci By Tom Ford blue acetate wristwatch In the 1930s, Gucci introduced the famous horsebit motif, inspired by the equestrian world, which became one of the brand's distinctive symbols. During World War II, due to material shortages, Gucci began using bamboo for bag handles, creating the legendary “Bamboo Bag”.

After the death of Guccio Gucci in 1953, his sons Aldo, Vasco, Ugo, and Rodolfo expanded the company internationally, opening stores in New York, London, and Paris. In the 1960s and 70s, Gucci became a symbol of status and luxury, beloved by celebrities such as Jackie Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor, and Audrey Hepburn.

However, in the 1980s, the company was marked by family conflicts and financial difficulties. In 1993, Maurizio Gucci, the last family member to run the company, sold his shares, ending the era of family management.

The rebirth of Gucci occurred in the 1990s under the creative direction of Tom Ford. With his provocative and glamorous style, Ford transformed Gucci into one of the most coveted brands in the world. After Ford, Frida Giannini and then Alessandro Michele continued to innovate the brand. Since 2015, Michele has brought an eccentric and inclusive aesthetic, helping to redefine modern luxury.
