The story of the piece
Alexander McQueen
Alexander McQueen metal bracelet with skulls and rhinestones
Alexander McQueen was born on March 17, 1969, in London. From a young age, he demonstrated extraordinary talent for tailoring, starting as an apprentice in prestigious Savile Row tailor shops, where he perfected traditional English garment-making techniques. He later studied fashion at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, where his graduation collection caught the attention of the famous fashion editor Isabella Blow, who purchased the entire collection and supported the start of his career.
In 1992, he founded the Alexander McQueen brand, quickly distinguishing himself with an innovative, provocative, and highly theatrical style. His fashion shows became true artistic performances, characterized by spectacular sets and collections that explored themes such as nature, history, identity, and technology. McQueen was renowned for his exceptional tailoring mastery and his ability to blend artisanal tradition with creative experimentation.
In 1996, he was appointed creative director of the French maison Givenchy, a role he held until 2001. During the same period, he continued to develop his own brand, gaining international fame and receiving numerous accolades, including four British Designer of the Year awards. In 2001, the Kering group acquired a majority stake in the brand, fostering its global expansion.
Following the passing of Alexander McQueen in 2010, the creative direction passed to Sarah Burton, his long-time collaborator. Burton preserved the founder's legacy by reinterpreting his aesthetic with contemporary sensibility and consolidating the prestige of the maison. Her creations also gained widespread recognition through the creation of the wedding dress for Catherine, Princess of Wales, in 2011.
