Hermès

The company's history began in 1837, when Thierry Hermès, a saddler, opened a workshop for harnesses and horse tack in Paris. In 1919, the maison's first logo appeared, designed by the founder's grandchildren; it was thanks to one of them, Emile-Maurice, that the company's production expanded, and products beyond saddlery began to emerge. Indeed, he drove the company to evolve over the years, helping it to always stay ahead of the times and meet the needs of its clients. Since the early 1950s, Hermès has used the logo we still see on its products today, featuring the image of a "Duc" carriage with a horse and a man standing in front of it. This symbol was chosen to recall the company's origins as a producer of saddlery. Some of the brand's creations, such as the Birkin or Kelly bag, have become true icons recognized worldwide, as have the colorful printed silk scarves, first created in 1929 by designer Lola Prusac, which became one of the pillars of the Maison. The orange color of the logo stems from a charming accident: during the Second World War, the brand's cardboard packaging supplier ran out of the usual gold and cream shades; for this reason, Hermès was forced to use bright orange cardboard boxes to ship its products. Despite the error, the color was appreciated by customers and quickly became one of the Maison's distinctive hallmarks.
