Hermès So Kelly 22 shoulder bag in Pivoine Togo leather

Hermès was founded in 1837 in Paris by Thierry Hermès, initially as a workshop specializing in high-quality harnesses and saddles. Catering to the European aristocracy, the maison built its reputation on artisanal excellence and a profound knowledge of materials. As decades passed and means of transport evolved, Hermès expanded its offering, progressively transforming from a traditional saddlery into a company dedicated to the art of travel and leather goods.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, with Charles-Émile and later his sons, Hermès introduced suitcases, bags, and accessories that met new mobility needs. In 1922, the first women's bag was launched, a sign of a maison ready to engage with societal changes. 1937 was the debut year of the famous carré in seta, which would become an iconic symbol of French luxury.

The post-war period consolidated the brand's identity, based on quality, craftsmanship, and limited production. The maison became synonymous with discreet, timeless luxury. Among its most famous pieces, two symbolic bags stand out: the Kelly, made popular by Grace Kelly and becoming a legend in the 1950s, and the Birkin, born in 1984 from the meeting between Jane Birkin and Jean-Louis Dumas, a fifth-generation family member.

Over time, Hermès expanded into clothing, accessories, perfumery, and home decor, maintaining excellence in manufacturing as its pillar. Every object tells the story of a savoir-faire passed down through generations of artisans.
