Founded in Hamburg in 1906 by entrepreneur Claus-Johannes Voss, banker Alfred Nehemias, and engineer August Eberstein. In 1909, the first writing instrument from the newborn company was launched, called “Rouge et noir”. Due to these aesthetic characteristics, the pen earned the nickname little red riding hood.

In 1910, a second version of the “Rouge et noir” was introduced, featuring a white cap instead of red, which was named Montblanc, following a suggestion from Carl Shalk, a friend of the owners, by analogy with Mont Blanc. In 1913, the analogy was perfected, and the white end of the cap was transformed into a white six-pointed star with rounded tips, taken as an icon of the mountain peak.
