The story of the piece

Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton x Takashi Murakami monogram canvas GM pochette

Louis Vuitton was founded in 1854 in Paris when Louis Vuitton Malletier, a visionary artisan, opened his first atelier specializing in travel trunks. In an era when modern tourism was emerging, Vuitton revolutionized the sector by introducing the flat-top trunk, which was lighter, more resistant, and easier to stack than traditional domed trunks. This innovation, combined with the impeccable quality of the materials, quickly made the brand synonymous with luxury and practicality.

In 1896, his son Georges Vuitton created the famous LV monogram, along with floral motifs inspired by Art Nouveau, with the aim of protecting creations from imitations. That pattern became one of the most recognizable icons in the world, a symbol of elegance and prestige.

Throughout the 20th century, Louis Vuitton expanded internationally, always maintaining a strong connection to the art of travel. Luggage, bags, and accessories combined functionality and sophistication, consolidating the maison's style. With its entry into the LVMH group in the 1980s, the brand entered a new phase of global growth.

The decisive change occurred in 1997 with the arrival of Marc Jacobs, the first creative director of the fashion line. Jacobs transformed Louis Vuitton into a complete fashion brand, introducing prêt-à-porter and artistic collaborations that marked pop culture, such as those with Stephen Sprouse and Takashi Murakami. The monogram was reinterpreted in colorful, contemporary versions, winning over a new generation.

In 2013, Nicolas Ghesquière took over the creative direction of the women's line, bringing a modern, architectural, and futuristic aesthetic. In parallel, the menswear line experienced an extraordinary season with Virgil Abloh (2018-2021), who merged luxury and street culture, redefining the maison's codes.
