The story of the piece
Louis Vuitton
Louis Vuitton Koala wallet in Monogram canvas and leather
Louis Vuitton was founded in 1854 in Paris by Louis Vuitton, an artisan specializing in the creation of travel trunks. In an era when long-distance travel was becoming increasingly common, Vuitton revolutionized the sector by introducing lightweight, resistant trunks with flat lids, easy to stack during train and ship travel. This innovation marked the beginning of the maison's success.
In 1859, the company opened the Asnières workshop, which became the production heart of the brand and remains a symbol of its artisanal tradition today. After the founder's death in 1892, his son Georges Vuitton carried on the family legacy, contributing decisively to the brand's international expansion. He is responsible for the creation of the famous Monogram Canvas pattern in 1896, born both as a distinctive element and as protection against imitations.
Throughout the twentieth century, Louis Vuitton progressively expanded its offering: from suitcases to bags, to leather accessories, always maintaining the highest quality standards. Iconic models such as Speedy, Keepall, and Alma became symbols of elegance and status.
In the nineties, with the arrival of Marc Jacobs as creative director, the maison entered the world of prêt-à-porter and strengthened its role in contemporary fashion. Artistic collaborations with international designers and artists, including Stephen Sprouse and Takashi Murakami, helped renew the brand's image.
Today, Louis Vuitton is one of the most influential luxury houses in the world. Part of the LVMH group, it continues to represent a perfect balance between heritage, innovation, and savoir-faire, keeping alive its identity of craftsmanship, exclusivity, and timeless style.
