The story of the piece

Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton Luggage foulard

Louis Vuitton is one of the most famous luxury fashion brands in the world, renowned above all for its high-quality leather goods. The history of Louis Vuitton began in 1854, when founder Louis Vuitton opened his first shop in Paris, specializing in the manufacture of trunks and travel items.

Louis Vuitton was born in 1821 in the French region of Jura. At the age of 13, he moved to Paris and began working as an apprentice trunk maker for a noble family. This experience provided him with a deep knowledge of the art of trunk making and inspired him to found his brand.

In 1854, Louis Vuitton opened his first boutique at number 4 Rue Neuve des Capucines in Paris. Here, he presented his innovative collection of flat trunks, made with waterproof coverings and metal reinforcements, making them ideal for travel.

One of Louis Vuitton's most revolutionary contributions to the world of leather goods was the invention of the Tumbler Lock closure system in 1862, which made his trunks virtually impossible to open without the original key. This closure system helped protect travelers' belongings, earning the brand a reputation for reliability and security.

After the death of Louis Vuitton in 1892, his son Georges Vuitton took the reins of the company and introduced further innovations in product design. In 1896, Georges created the famous Monogram LV pattern, which has become a style and status icon in the fashion world.

Throughout the 20th century, Louis Vuitton grew steadily, expanding its product line to include bags, suitcases, accessories, clothing, shoes, and perfumes. The brand has maintained a reputation for artisanal excellence, using high-quality materials and emphasizing innovation and design.

Today, Louis Vuitton is part of the LVMH group (Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton), one of the largest luxury goods conglomerates in the world. The brand continues to be synonymous with luxury, style, and prestige, with a global presence through exclusive boutiques in many of the world's major cities. Its legacy of craftsmanship and innovation has made Louis Vuitton an internationally recognized fashion icon.
