The story of the piece
Lanvin
Lanvin lurex ribbed knit sweater
The story of Lanvin began in 1889 in Paris, when Jeanne Lanvin opened a small millinery atelier in Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré. Her talent quickly attracted an elegant and sophisticated clientele, but the real turning point came thanks to her daughter Marguerite. Jeanne created dresses so exquisite that many mothers began to request copies for their own daughters. Thus, one of the first mother-daughter coordinated lines in fashion history was born.
In 1909, Lanvin officially joined the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne, establishing itself as a haute couture maison. During the 1920s, it became famous for its Art Deco-inspired dresses, characterized by precious embroidery, vibrant colors, and fluid silhouettes. Iconic is the "Lanvin blue," an intense and sophisticated shade that has become the brand's distinctive signature.
Jeanne Lanvin progressively expanded the maison's universe: womenswear, childrenswear, fragrances, and interior decoration. In 1927, she launched Arpège, a fragrance created in homage to her daughter, whose bottle features the famous mother-and-daughter image that remains the brand's logo today.
Following the founder's death in 1946, Lanvin underwent several stages of transformation, while maintaining its connection to Parisian tradition. In the 21st century, under various creative directions, the brand has reinterpreted its heritage with a contemporary vision.
Today, Lanvin is the oldest active French fashion maison, a symbol of elegance, femininity, and artisanal savoir-faire. Its history tells a delicate balance between family intimacy and international haute couture.
