The story of the piece

Dolce&Gabbana

Dolce&Gabbana cotton sweater with embellishments

Dolce & Gabbana is a renowned Italian fashion maison founded in 1985 in Milan by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. The two designers met in 1980 while working for the same atelier and, discovering a shared vision of fashion, decided to create their own line.

Dolce&Gabbana cotton sweater with embellishments. Their first collection was presented in 1985 during Milan Fashion Week and immediately stood out for its bold, sensual style, heavily inspired by Italian culture and cinema, particularly Sicily, Dolce's homeland. The womenswear collections evoked Mediterranean shapes and the figure of the strong, passionate, and seductive "Italian woman".

In the 1990s, the brand experienced rapid international growth, thanks in part to the iconic collaboration with Madonna, who wore many of their pieces during the Girlie Show tour and other public events. Dolce & Gabbana quickly made a name for themselves not only in prêt-à-porter but also in accessories, fragrances, lingerie, and evening gowns.

Over time, the brand has expanded its offering to include menswear, childrenswear, eyewear, and cosmetics. Their style is recognizable for its bold prints, use of black lace, sculpted silhouettes, and continuous references to Italian Baroque and religious traditions.

After the end of their romantic relationship in 2005, Dolce and Gabbana continued to work together, keeping the brand's creative DNA intact.

Despite some media controversies and accusations of racism or controversial communication choices, Dolce & Gabbana remains one of the most well-known luxury brands in the world today, a symbol of Italian craftsmanship, strong identity, and theatrical style. Their fashion shows continue to amaze with spectacular sets and celebrate beauty in all its forms.
