The story of the piece
Jacquemus
Jacquemus Le Grand Bambino leather shoulder bag
Jacquemus is a French fashion brand founded in 2009 by designer Simon Porte Jacquemus, originally from Provence. Born in 1990 in a small village called Mallemort, Simon developed a strong interest in fashion from a young age, decisively influenced by his mother, Valérie, who would remain a continuous source of inspiration even after her passing in 2008. In her honour, the young creator decided to launch his own label, choosing his mother's maiden name: Jacquemus.
At only nineteen years old, Simon moved to Paris to work in retail at Comme des Garçons, thanks to the support of Rei Kawakubo and Adrian Joffe, who allowed him to present his first collections. From the beginning, Jacquemus has stood out for a minimalist, poetic aesthetic deeply connected to the imagery of the South of France: golden fields, sunny colours, and simple yet conceptual silhouettes.
The true turning point came in the 2010s, when the brand gained notoriety through scenographic runway shows and a skillful use of social media, transforming Jacquemus into one of the most influential brands of the new generation. Some of its creations have become iconic: the Le Chiquito mini-bag, asymmetrical dresses, and oversize hats. The 2018 “La Bomba” show, set in a lavender field, and the 2019 show in a pink wheat field, consolidated the brand's image as a symbol of poetic modernity.
Over the years, Jacquemus has expanded its offering by introducing menswear, accessory collections, and collaborations with major companies such as Nike. Despite rapid growth, the brand maintains a strongly personal identity, balancing Mediterranean spontaneity with contemporary design.
