The story of the piece
Gucci
Gucci patched cotton T-shirt
Gucci is one of the most famous and recognizable Italian fashion maisons in the world, a symbol of luxury, craftsmanship, and innovation. Founded in 1921 in Florence by Guccio Gucci, the company began as a workshop specializing in high-quality leather goods, inspired by the English elegance Guccio observed while working at the prestigious Savoy Hotel in London.
Gucci patched cotton T-shirt In the early decades, Gucci established itself through the production of suitcases, trunks, and travel accessories for the upper-class clientele. In the 1930s, due to wartime restrictions, the maison began using alternative materials such as hemp, creating the characteristic diamond pattern that would become iconic.
In the post-war period, Gucci expanded in Italy and abroad, opening boutiques in Rome, Milan, and New York. Symbols were introduced that still define the brand today: the horsebit, the green-red-green web, and the double G logo, the founder's initials.
In the 1960s and '70s, Gucci became synonymous with international glamour, beloved by celebrities such as Jackie Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor, and Grace Kelly. However, the 1980s were marked by family tensions and a decline in the brand's image.
The relaunch arrived in the 1990s with the arrival of designer Tom Ford, who reinterpreted Gucci luxury with a sensual and modern twist. Following him, Frida Giannini and then Alessandro Michele led the brand in new directions, respectively between classicism and an eclectic, inclusive style.
Today Gucci is part of the Kering group and continues to be a benchmark in global fashion, blending Italian heritage, aesthetic experimentation, and a commitment to sustainability and digital innovation.
