The story of the piece
Dolce&Gabbana
Dolce&Gabbana brass clip-on earrings with leather rose
The story of Dolce & Gabbana begins in Milan in the early '80s, when Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana met while working in the same atelier. Dolce, Sicilian, brings with him the intense imagery of his land: widows in black, lace, Baroque religiosity, and Mediterranean sensuality. Gabbana adds a more urban and instinctive aesthetic. Together they founded the brand in 1985, debuting at Milano Collezioni with a runway show titled “Donne vere”.
From the beginning, their style was clear: a celebration of curvaceous and confident femininity, inspired by 1950s and '60s Italian cinema — icons such as Anna Magnani and Sophia Loren became ideal references. The corset, visible bras, black tailored suits, and Sicilian lace became distinctive codes. In the '90s, the brand exploded internationally, also thanks to the support of stars like Madonna, who chose them for her “Girlie Show” in 1993.
In addition to the main line, D&G was born, more youthful and experimental (later closed in 2011 to concentrate everything under the main brand). The brand expanded into fragrances, accessories, high jewelry, and the luxury Alta Moda line, launched in 2012, which brings Italian craftsmanship to theatrical and almost Renaissance levels.
The brand's history has not been without media controversy, but Dolce & Gabbana remains one of the most recognizable symbols of Made in Italy: an opulent, passionate aesthetic deeply linked to Italian culture.
In short? It is the story of two designers who transformed Sicily, cinema, and Mediterranean sensuality into a global language of luxury.
