The story of the piece
Balenciaga
Balenciaga Le Cagole XS Graffiti leather shoulder bag
Balenciaga is one of the most influential fashion maisons in the world, known for its innovative, experimental, and avant-garde style. Founded in 1917 by Cristóbal Balenciaga in San Sebastián, Spain, the house moved to Paris in 1937, where it became a benchmark of Haute Couture.
Balenciaga Le Cagole XS Graffiti leather shoulder bag. Cristóbal Balenciaga was considered a master of tailoring, capable of creating revolutionary silhouettes. In the 1950s and '60s, he introduced new lines such as the sack dress, the tunic, the cocoon coat, and the balloon silhouette, breaking away from traditional female body shapes. His architectural and sculptural vision profoundly influenced the entire fashion industry. Coco Chanel called him 'the only true couturier.'
After Balenciaga's retirement in 1968 and his death in 1972, the maison remained inactive in fashion until its relaunch in the 1980s. The true return to success occurred under the creative direction of Nicolas Ghesquière (1997–2012), who reinterpreted the founder's legacy with a modern, structured, and conceptual style.
In 2015, Demna Gvasalia was appointed creative director. With a provocative approach influenced by streetwear culture, Demna transformed Balenciaga into a global cultural phenomenon. Oversized sneakers, extreme volumes, deconstructed garments, and conceptual runway shows have redefined the understanding of contemporary fashion.
Today, Balenciaga, part of the Kering group, continues to be a symbol of innovation and experimentation, with a strong focus on sustainability and technology. While constantly evolving, the maison remains faithful to the visionary spirit of its founder, maintaining a balance between historical heritage and stylistic avant-garde.
