The story of the piece
Valentino
Valentino V Due Vls acetate and metal sunglasses
Valentino Garavani, known simply as Valentino, is one of the greatest Italian designers of all time, a symbol of timeless elegance, sophistication, and glamour. Born in Voghera in 1932, he trained in Paris at the most prestigious haute couture schools, such as the Chambre Syndicale de la Couture. After working for French designers, he returned to Italy and in 1960 founded his maison in Rome, with the help of his partner Giancarlo Giammetti.

His first collection conquered the international press and, in 1962, Valentino officially debuted in Florence, then the capital of Italian fashion. His style, romantic and sophisticated, became instantly recognizable. He is celebrated for his use of "Valentino red", an intense and theatrical shade that became his signature.
In the '60s and '70s, he dressed queens, princesses, Hollywood stars, and first ladies, including Jackie Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, and Audrey Hepburn. His name became synonymous with Italian haute couture worldwide.
Valentino is renowned for sartorial excellence, impeccable details, and a devotion to classic femininity. His creations celebrate women in every form, with dreamlike dresses and timeless lines.
In 1998, Valentino sold his maison but continued to design until his official retirement in 2008, celebrated with a spectacular runway show in Rome. Following his departure, creative direction passed to designers such as Pierpaolo Piccioli, who successfully renewed the brand while keeping its identity intact.
Today, Valentino is a global benchmark in haute couture and luxury prêt-à-porter, a symbol of Italian elegance, romanticism, and sartorial art. Valentino Garavani, retired but always celebrated, remains a living legend of international fashion.
