The story of the piece
Salvatore Ferragamo
Salvatore Ferragamo round leather coin purse
The story of Salvatore Ferragamo begins in 1898 in Bonito, Campania. From a very young age, Ferragamo showed extraordinary talent for shoemaking. At just nine years old, he crafted his first bespoke shoes, and shortly after moved to the United States, where he opened the famous “Hollywood Boot Shop” in Hollywood. There, he became known as the “shoemaker to the stars,” creating custom designs for actresses and silent film icons.
In the 1920s, he returned to Italy and established his business in Florence, a city that remains the heart of the maison today. Ferragamo combined craftsmanship with technical research, studying anatomy to perfect the fit. Among his most famous innovations are the cage heel, the cork wedge, and the 1938 “Rainbow” sandal, a symbol of creativity and chromatic audacity.
Following his death in 1960, the Ferragamo family continued to lead the company, expanding production to bags, clothing, accessories, and fragrances. While evolving over time, the brand has kept quality, elegance, and innovation at its core.
Today, Salvatore Ferragamo is synonymous with refined Italian luxury, capable of combining artisanal tradition and contemporary design, with a strong and recognizable identity in the international fashion landscape.
