The story of the piece

Cartier

Cartier crafted leather checkbook holder.

Cartier, one of the most prestigious jewellery maisons in the world, was founded in 1847 in Paris by Louis-François Cartier, who took over his master's workshop. Specializing in luxury watches and jewellery, Cartier quickly attracted an exclusive clientele, including members of the French aristocracy.

Cartier crafted leather checkbook holder. In 1904, thanks to a collaboration with aviator Alberto Santos-Dumont, Cartier created one of the first modern wristwatches, the famous Santos de Cartier, combining functionality with elegant design. This mark of innovation drove the maison to become a pioneer in luxury watchmaking. During the same period, under the leadership of Louis-François' sons – Louis, Pierre, and Jacques – Cartier expanded to London and New York, becoming the official jeweler to many royal houses, earning the title of “the jeweler of kings, the king of jewelers”.

Cartier introduced iconic designs, such as the Love bracelet in the '60s, a symbol of eternal love, and the Panthère line, inspired by the panther, which became an emblem of the maison. Other masterpieces include the Tank, a minimalist watch inspired by World War I tanks, and the Trinity, an interlocking ring of three symbolic golds.

In the 20th century, Cartier consolidated its position as a leader in luxury, combining artisanal tradition and innovation. In 1988, it became part of the Richemont group, expanding its global presence with boutiques in the world's major cities.

Today, Cartier is synonymous with timeless elegance, creativity, and artisanal perfection, celebrated for creations that unite style, exclusivity, and a rich historical heritage.
