The maison Saint Laurent, initially founded as Yves Saint Laurent, was born in 1961 in Paris from the creative union between Yves Saint Laurent and his partner Pierre Bergé. After becoming the creative director of Dior at only 21, Yves decided to create his own fashion house, bringing with him a radically new idea of elegance: free, modern, and deeply connected to the spirit of the times.

Since the 1960s, the brand has introduced innovations that would change women's fashion forever. In 1966, Rive Gauche was launched, the first luxury prêt-à-porter line, marking a turning point in the industry. Yves Saint Laurent wanted to bring fashion closer to daily reality, making it accessible and capable of representing a transforming society. Among the most iconic creations are Le Smoking — the first women's tuxedo —, the saharienne, the women's blazer, and art-inspired dresses, such as the famous Mondrian collection of 1965.

Saint Laurent is also a pioneer of inclusivity: it was among the first designers to bring models of diverse origins to the runway and to celebrate multiculturalism with collections inspired by Africa, China, Russia, and Spain.

Following the designer's retirement in 2002 and his passing in 2008, the maison continues to evolve through various creative directors. Tom Ford brought a sensual and glamorous vision; Stefano Pilati introduced a more rigorous elegance; Hedi Slimane revolutionized the brand's identity, simplifying the name to Saint Laurent and introducing a rock and androgynous aesthetic; Anthony Vaccarello, since 2016, has given the maison a sensual, architectural, and contemporary character.

Today, Saint Laurent remains one of the most influential fashion houses in the world, a symbol of boldness, modernity, and Parisian sophistication.
