The story of the piece

Prada

Prada salt and pepper pattern wool suit

The story of Prada begins in 1913 in Milan, when Mario Prada and his brother Martino founded a leather goods shop called “Fratelli Prada” in the prestigious Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. Specializing in luxury items such as bags, trunks, and leather accessories, the brothers quickly gained notoriety for the high craftsmanship and refined design of their products. In 1919, Prada became an official supplier to the Italian Royal House, earning the right to use the Savoy ribbon symbol in its logo.

Miuccia, together with her husband and CEO Patrizio Bertelli, expanded the brand's vision, introducing a mix of minimalism and innovation that became the hallmark of Prada. In the '80s, she launched a line of black nylon bags and accessories, including the iconic Vela backpack, which redefined luxury standards with a functional and contemporary design.

In 1989, Prada debuted with a women's prêt-à-porter line, followed by the men's line in 1995. Miuccia explores a unique aesthetic that blends classicism and avant-garde, with elegant yet unconventional pieces. In the '90s, Prada acquired brands such as Church’s and Jil Sander, consolidating its position as a leader in luxury.

Prada is also known for the secondary brand Miu Miu, launched in 1993 and dedicated to a young and creative audience. Today, Prada is synonymous with Italian craftsmanship, experimentation, and timeless style, with a strong focus on sustainability and technological innovation, representing one of the pillars of global haute couture.
