The story of the piece

Missoni

Missoni Zig Zag pattern wool mini dress

The story of Missoni begins in 1953, when Ottavio Missoni and his wife Rosita founded a small knitwear workshop in Gallarate, Lombardy. The couple dedicated themselves to creating unique pieces, leveraging Ottavio's passion for fabrics and colors and Rosita's tailoring expertise. Their first success was the production of sportswear, but they soon focused on womenswear, developing a distinctive style that would make them famous.

Missoni Zig Zag pattern wool mini dress. Missoni is distinguished by its innovative use of zigzag patterns, multicolored stripes, and geometric textures, achieved through advanced knitwear techniques. Each piece is an explosion of color and creativity, yet always elegant and sophisticated. In the 1960s, the maison gained international fame through its participation in fashion events in Florence and Milan. The 1967 collection at Pitti Palace marked a turning point, even as the brand caused scandal by having models walk the runway without bras under sheer garments.

In the 1970s, Missoni became synonymous with Italian fashion worldwide, thanks to a style that embodies the concept of bohemian luxury. The brand continues to innovate, experimenting with new color and material combinations, while remaining true to family values and the Made in Italy heritage.

In 1997, Angela Missoni, daughter of Ottavio and Rosita, took over as creative director, giving the brand a new impetus with modern and fresh collections while respecting its historical identity. Today, Missoni is a global icon, present in boutiques and luxury department stores, celebrated for its unmistakable style that blends tradition, craftsmanship, and innovation. The Missoni family remains at the heart of the brand's creative and entrepreneurial vision.
