The story of the piece
Louis Vuitton
Louis Vuitton pochette Trousse Toilette 28 in Monogram canvas and leather
Louis Vuitton is one of the most prestigious and recognized luxury maisons in the world, a symbol of artisanal excellence, innovation, and timeless style. Founded in 1854 in Paris by Louis Vuitton, the company began as a workshop specializing in the creation of travel trunks. Thanks to its extraordinary craftsmanship, Louis Vuitton revolutionized the sector by introducing flat-topped trunks, which were lighter, more resistant, and easily stackable, perfect for the new modes of transport of the era, such as trains and ocean liners.
Upon the founder's death, his son Georges Vuitton continued the brand's expansion. In 1896, he created the famous Monogram Canvas pattern, composed of the “LV” initials and stylized floral motifs. Designed to counter imitations, the Monogram quickly became one of the most iconic and recognizable symbols of international luxury.
Throughout the twentieth century, the maison expanded its production by introducing handbags, small leather goods, accessories, and travel items. Creations such as the Speedy, the Keepall, the Noé, and the Alma are today considered true fashion icons, appreciated for their perfect balance of functionality, elegance, and artisanal quality.
In 1987, Louis Vuitton joined Moët Hennessy, giving rise to the LVMH group, now the world leader in the luxury sector. A decisive moment in the history of the maison arrived in 1997 with the appointment of Marc Jacobs as the first creative director. With him came the prêt-à-porter collections and important collaborations with contemporary artists such as Takashi Murakami and Yayoi Kusama, which helped renew the brand's image.
