The story of the piece
Louis Vuitton
Louis Vuitton Monogram patent leather Lexington pochette
The history of Louis Vuitton began in 1854, when Louis Vuitton, a French artisan, opened his first shop in Paris, on Rue Neuve des Capucines. Specializing in the production of travel trunks, Louis introduced a major innovation: the rectangular-shaped trunk, which was easier to stack than the domed ones of the era. Made in waterproof “Trianon” canvas, his trunks became a symbol of elegance and functionality.
In 1896, his son Georges Vuitton created the famous LV monogram with flowers and geometric patterns to protect products from imitations. This design became the brand's icon.
During the 20th century, Louis Vuitton expanded its range: suitcases, travel bags, handbags, and accessories. With international expansion and the opening of boutiques worldwide, the maison established itself as a symbol of global luxury.
In 1987, Louis Vuitton merged with Moët et Chandon and Hennessy, forming the LVMH (Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy) group, today the largest luxury conglomerate in the world.
In the 1990s and 2000s, under the leadership of Marc Jacobs as creative director, the brand reinvented itself by blending tradition and modernity, collaborating with artists such as Stephen Sprouse, Takashi Murakami, and Yayoi Kusama. Iconic collections were born, merging art and fashion.
In recent years, under the creative direction of Virgil Abloh (until 2021) and now Pharrell Williams, Louis Vuitton has strengthened its presence in streetwear and pop culture, while maintaining its strong artisanal heritage.
Today, Louis Vuitton is a symbol of elegance, innovation, and timeless quality, with products ranging from leather goods to apparel, as well as watches and perfumery, continuing to represent the essence of French luxury.
