The story of the piece
Louis Vuitton
Louis Vuitton Neverfull GM Monogram canvas shoulder bag
Louis Vuitton was born in 1821 in a small village in eastern France and, at just 16 years old, moved to Paris, where he began working as an apprentice to a trunk and suitcase maker. In 1854, he founded his company, the Maison Louis Vuitton, specializing in the production of luxury trunks, which quickly became popular among the Parisian elite for their craftsmanship and innovation.
One of Vuitton's main contributions was the invention of the flat, rectangular trunk, which differed from traditional rounded trunks and made stacking easier during long train or ship journeys. This revolutionary design marked the beginning of unprecedented success, and Vuitton soon became famous for his ability to combine practicality and elegance.
In 1896, Louis's son, Georges Vuitton, created the famous “Monogram LV” pattern, composed of his father's initials, flowers, and geometric shapes. This iconic design served not only as a symbol of luxury but also as an anti-counterfeiting measure to combat the numerous imitations of Vuitton products.
Throughout the 20th century, the company continued to grow and expand its offering, including accessories, bags, shoes, and clothing. In the 1980s, Louis Vuitton merged with Moët et Chandon and Hennessy, forming the luxury giant LVMH, now the largest luxury goods group in the world.
Led by creatives such as Marc Jacobs and, more recently, Virgil Abloh, Louis Vuitton has become a symbol of modern luxury and innovation. For over 150 years, the brand has represented a balance between artisanal tradition and stylistic experimentation, maintaining its prominent position in fashion and design.
