The story of the piece

Gucci

Gucci flora trousers

The history of Gucci began in 1921, when Guccio Gucci founded the company in Florence, Italy. Guccio had worked as a porter at the prestigious Hotel Savoy in London, where he was inspired by the elegance and luxury of the travel goods used by the guests. Upon returning to Italy, he opened a shop selling high-quality leather goods and travel items, using Italian craftsmanship and premium materials.

Gucci flora trousers In the 1930s, Gucci introduced the red and green stripe pattern, inspired by horsebit, an iconic signature of the maison. During World War II, due to material shortages, Gucci began using hemp for its products, creating the bag with the famous "Diamante" pattern.

The brand became popular among high society and Hollywood stars in the 1950s and '60s. In 1953, following the death of Guccio, his sons Aldo, Vasco, Ugo, and Rodolfo took the reins of the company, expanding the brand internationally by opening stores in New York, London, and Tokyo.

In the 1970s and '80s, the Gucci family was involved in internal conflicts, which culminated in the sale of significant shares of the company. In 1993, the last family member sold their stake to Investcorp, marking the end of the family era.

The arrival of Tom Ford in 1994 as creative director brought a radical transformation. Ford reimagined Gucci with a sexy and modern style, returning the brand to international success. In 1999, Gucci became part of the Kering group (then Pinault-Printemps-Redoute).

In the following years, several creative directors contributed to maintaining the brand's relevance, including Frida Giannini and Alessandro Michele. Michele, in particular, revitalized Gucci with his eclectic and vintage style starting in 2015, making the brand a symbol of inclusivity and innovation in fashion.

Today, Gucci is one of the most recognized and influential luxury brands in the world, with a rich history of craftsmanship, innovation, and transformation.
