The story of the piece

Gucci

Gucci by Tom Ford cotton and silk t-shirt

The story of Gucci began in 1921 in Florence, when Guccio Gucci founded his namesake fashion maison, initially specializing in leather goods, luggage, and luxury accessories inspired by English style. After working in London as a porter at the Savoy Hotel, Guccio was fascinated by the elegance of the international clientele and brought that aesthetic to Italy.

In the 1930s and '40s, Gucci became renowned for the quality of its artisanal products, such as leather bags and travel trunks. During the Second World War, due to material shortages, the company began using hemp and bamboo, elements that became iconic to the brand, such as the famous bamboo handle bag.

Gucci by Tom Ford cotton and silk t-shirt In the 1950s and '60s, with Guccio's sons joining the management, the brand expanded internationally, opening boutiques in Milan, New York, and Paris. During this period, distinctive symbols were born, such as the red and green stripe motif, the horsebit, and the GG logo. Gucci became synonymous with global luxury, dressing celebrities like Jackie Kennedy and Grace Kelly.

In the 1980s and '90s, the maison faced internal crises and family struggles, culminating in the murder of Maurizio Gucci in 1995. Shortly after, with the arrival of Tom Ford as creative director, Gucci was reborn with a sexy and modern style, becoming one of the most coveted brands in the world.

In the 2010s, under the direction of Alessandro Michele, Gucci underwent a new transformation, blending vintage, eccentricity, and inclusivity, capturing a young and global audience.

Today, Gucci is one of the most influential brands in fashion, a symbol of innovation, artisanal tradition, and timeless creativity.
