The story of the piece
Gucci
Gucci Monogram canvas and leather Hobo handbag
Gucci was founded in 1921 when Guccio Gucci, inspired by the cosmopolitan elegance observed at the Savoy Hotel in London, opened a shop in Florence specializing in travel goods and leather goods. The maison immediately distinguished itself through the quality of its materials, artisanal craftsmanship, and an aesthetic that blends British taste with Tuscan tradition. References to the equestrian world — such as the bit, the stirrup, and the green-red-green web stripe — became stylistic codes destined to define the brand's identity.
Between the '50s and '60s, Gucci experienced extraordinary growth: celebrities, the jet set, and Hollywood icons chose its creations, making the brand an international symbol of luxury. Legendary pieces were born, such as the Bamboo Bag, the Jackie Bag, and the bit loafers, which remain pillars of its heritage today.
The '80s marked a complex period, but a rebirth arrived in 1994 with Tom Ford, who transformed Gucci into a sexy, bold, and contemporary icon. His collections, characterized by provocative glamour and sensual lines, brought the maison back to the pinnacle of the fashion system.
In 2006, direction passed to Frida Giannini, who reinterpreted historical codes with sober and romantic elegance, enhancing the brand's Italian tradition. A cultural turning point arrived in 2015 with Alessandro Michele, who introduced a maximalist, scholarly, and deeply eclectic aesthetic: Gucci became a global phenomenon, celebrated for its free and inclusive creativity.
In 2023, creative direction was entrusted to Sabato De Sarno, who inaugurated a new phase based on contemporary sensuality, clean lines, and a return to essential refinement.
