The story of the piece
Gucci
Gucci leather and canvas mules
Gucci is one of the most prestigious and recognized fashion maisons in the world, a symbol of Made in Italy excellence. Its history began in 1921, when Guccio Gucci founded a workshop in Florence specializing in the production of luxury travel goods and leatherware. After working at the Hotel Savoy in London, Guccio drew inspiration from the elegance of the international aristocracy and decided to create products that combined artisanal quality, functionality, and style.
In the 1930s and 40s, Gucci expanded its collection with bags, suitcases, belts, and footwear. During the Second World War, due to material shortages, the maison experimented with new solutions, introducing the famous bamboo handle, destined to become one of the brand's most iconic symbols with the birth of the Bamboo Bag.
In the 1950s and 60s, under the guidance of Guccio Gucci's sons, the brand expanded internationally with boutiques in New York, London, Paris, and Tokyo. Distinctive elements such as the horsebit and the green-red-green web, inspired by the equestrian world, were born. Celebrities such as Grace Kelly, Jackie Kennedy, Audrey Hepburn, and Elizabeth Taylor helped make Gucci a global symbol of luxury and elegance.
In the 1980s, the maison went through a difficult phase due to family conflicts and management issues. The rebirth arrived in the 1990s with Tom Ford, who revolutionized the brand's image through a sensual, modern, and sophisticated style, bringing Gucci back to the heights of international fashion.
In the following years, creative directors such as Frida Giannini, Alessandro Michele, and Sabato De Sarno reinterpreted the maison's identity with innovative visions, always maintaining a strong link to tradition. Today, Gucci is part of the Kering group and is one of the most influential luxury brands in the world.
