The Dior brand was founded in Paris in 1946 by Christian Dior, one of the most influential couturiers of the 20th century. From the very beginning, the maison has been distinguished by a revolutionary vision of femininity. In 1947, Dior presented his first collection, which went down in history as the “New Look,” characterized by cinched waists, soft shoulders, and full skirts: a style that marked the rebirth of fashion in the post-war era and brought elegance and luxury back to women.
Success was immediate and international. Dior rapidly expanded the maison by introducing fragrances, accessories, and prêt-à-porter lines, consolidating a sophisticated and refined image. Following the sudden death of Christian Dior in 1957, creative direction passed to the young Yves Saint Laurent, who continued to innovate while upholding the founder's legacy.
In the following years, other great designers led the maison, including Marc Bohan and Gianfranco Ferré, contributing to strengthening its elegant and structured style. In the 90s, under the direction of John Galliano, Dior experienced a new phase of great creativity and theatricality, with bold and spectacular collections.
In the 21st century, the maison continues to evolve thanks to the contributions of Raf Simons and the current creative director Maria Grazia Chiuri, who introduces a modern and feminist vision of fashion.
Today, Dior represents one of the pillars of global luxury, a symbol of artisanal excellence, innovation, and timeless sophistication.
