The story of the piece
Gucci
Gucci Guccissima leather open-toe pumps
The history of Gucci began in 1921 in Florence, when Guccio Gucci opened a small leather goods shop. Guccio, who had previously worked as a waiter in a luxury hotel in London, was struck by the quality and elegance of the products he saw. Thus, upon returning to Italy, he decided to start his own leather bag and luggage business, focusing on artisanal craftsmanship and attention to detail.
Gucci Guccissima leather open-toe pumps. In the 1930s and '40s, Gucci gained a reputation for high quality, thanks to exclusive and well-finished pieces. During the Second World War, due to material shortages, Gucci created the famous “double G canvas,” which became one of the brand's distinctive emblems. In the 1950s, the company opened its first store in Rome, and Guccio entrusted the management to his son Aldo, who would then expand the maison internationally, with openings in New York and other major cities.
In the 1970s, Gucci reached the height of its international prestige, becoming a symbol of luxury and opulence. The 1980s and '90s, however, were marked by periods of difficulty and family conflicts that threatened the company.
In 1994, designer Tom Ford was appointed creative director and brought a breath of fresh air with bold and sensual collections, relaunching the brand with great success. In 2004, Gucci was acquired by the Kering group, and creative direction passed to Alessandro Michele in 2015. Michele introduced a new style, characterized by a mix of vintage and modernity, bringing Gucci back to the center of the global fashion landscape. Today, Gucci is one of the most influential and recognized brands globally.
