In 1955, he joined the maison Dior as an assistant to Christian Dior. Following the sudden death of the founder in 1957, the young Yves Saint Laurent was appointed creative director of the maison at just twenty-one years old. His early collections achieved great success, establishing him as one of the most brilliant promises of French haute couture.

In 1961, together with Pierre Bergé, he founded his own fashion house: Yves Saint Laurent. From the very beginning, the brand has been distinguished by an innovative vision of feminine elegance, capable of combining refinement, modernity, and expressive freedom. The designer interpreted the social changes of his time through creations that transformed the female wardrobe.

Among his most famous inventions is "Le Smoking," introduced in 1966, a feminine evening suit inspired by menswear that became a symbol of emancipation and independence. Yves Saint Laurent also introduced iconic pieces such as the safari jacket, the pantsuit, and sheer dresses, contributing to the redefinition of the concept of modern femininity.

Deeply influenced by art, he dedicated entire collections to great artists such as Mondrian, Picasso, Matisse, and Van Gogh, creating a unique dialogue between fashion and culture. During the same period, he developed the Rive Gauche line, one of the first prêt-à-porter collections by a couturier, making luxury fashion more accessible.
