The story of the piece
Valentino
Valentino printed baggy denim trousers
Valentino Garavani, known simply as Valentino, is one of the most celebrated Italian designers, a symbol of international elegance and glamour. Born in Voghera on May 11, 1932, he moved to Paris at a young age to study fashion at the prestigious École de la Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne. After formative experiences with designers such as Jean Dessès and Guy Laroche, he returned to Italy and in 1960 founded Maison Valentino in Rome, together with his partner Giancarlo Giammetti.
Valentino printed baggy denim trousers. Success came quickly. As early as the 1960s, Valentino captivated the international jet set with his sophisticated creations, characterized by impeccable lines, refined details, and an innate sense of femininity. In 1967, he received the prestigious Neiman Marcus Award, a recognition that consecrated his talent on a global scale.
One of the distinctive elements of his style is the use of the famous "Valentino red," an intense and vibrant shade that became the maison's signature. His creations have been worn by cinema divas, royalty, and style icons, including Jackie Kennedy, Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, and Audrey Hepburn.
During the 1980s and '90s, Valentino consolidated his fashion empire, expanding the line with prêt-à-porter, accessories, and fragrances. Despite commercial expansion, he maintained the sartorial quality of his collections intact.
In 2008, Valentino officially retired from the fashion scene with a celebratory runway show that brought together the world's greatest top models. Creative direction passed to other designers, but the spirit of the maison remains faithful to timeless elegance.
Valentino Garavani is today considered a master of couture, a symbol of refinement and aesthetic grandeur. His legacy continues to live on in the universe of luxury and international fashion.
